I spend my days running Shovels, a construction and building activity data service that I co-founded in 2022 with Luka Kacil.
Prior to Shovels, I ran MightySignal under the ownership of Xenon Partners. I also ran FindEmails and a few other small sales and marketing technology companies like eNPS, TrackJobChanges, Name2Domain, and Voxloca. The passive income was enough to sustain and give me the freedom to write a book, The Parallel Entrepreneur, and buy a lot of family time. I sold most of that passive income to another private equity firm so that I could go full-time into MightySignal.
I’m an Assistant Professor in the Business Department at Diablo Valley College (DVC). I teach search marketing and sit on the advisory boards for both the Business and Computer Science departments. I led the Diablo Valley Tech Initiative (DVTI), an economic development organization incubated at DVC. After sitting on the Contra Costa County Sustainability Commission for two years, I joined the board of Sustainable Contra Costa as its Treasurer and marketing committee chair. I’m currently on the board of the DVC Foundation.
I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2004 with a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Environmental Sciences. After a couple of years in management consulting, I graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School with a Master’s in Public Policy and from the MIT Sloan School of Management with an MBA in 2009.
Want to connect? Here’s who I’d love to hear from:
- Thoughtful, energetic people who want to run for office in or around Contra Costa County and do something interesting in the vast middle ground between our two major parties.
- Entrepreneurs who have found a balance between maximal earnings and maximal flexibility and family time.
- People who have overcome some external obstacles and are focusing on health and happiness.
